At least one gag has not been approved for Nikki Glaser in her return as host of the Golden Globes ceremony this Sunday.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter published Tuesday, the comedian revealed that legendary actor and comedian Steve Martin had proposed a line for her monologue, but then quickly urged her not to use it.

“Steve Martin sent a joke through one of my writers. It was very nice,” Glaser recalled. “Then he said, ‘Actually, tell him: Don’t make that joke. That’s too far.’ And he was right. I loved the joke, but I don’t think I can say that.”

She explained of the joke: “It wasn’t really dirty or anything. It was just a political joke that probably isn’t right for the show.”

Glaser said he appreciated Martin’s request to remove the joke, given that he is constantly being approached about possible new material. “I love that he corrected himself and said, ‘Tell him, don’t actually make that joke,’” she said.

The exact contents of the gag are unclear. Martin has not commented.

The “Only Murders In The Building” star, however, has criticized President Donald Trump and his allies in the past, despite managing to tone down jokes about him in recent years.
