Gwyneth Paltrow says the commotion surrounding her “conscious separation” from Coldplay singer and ex-husband Chris Martin caused an unexpected hurdle in her acting career.

Speaking about the situation on the latest episode of Amy Poehler’s Golden Globe-nominated “Good Hang” podcast, the Oscar winner revealed: “I was supposed to do a movie at one point, and it was like right after the conscious breakup with Chris, and there was a lot of harsh stuff in the press.”

“I think the dealer said, ‘This might be too hot to touch.'”

Paltrow went on to say, “That was cool because I was getting divorced and then I got fired, so that was awesome.”

The Goop mogul was widely mocked for a 2014 blog post about her split from Martin, with many finding her euphemism for the breakup either painfully valuable or just downright pretentious.

Looking back, Paltrow said she can see why she upset people with her words, which were intended to frame the split as a healthy, amicable ending rather than an emotional war.

“Let’s say you had a really nasty divorce, or your parents had a really nasty divorce,” he told Poehler. “And then you hear this idea that it doesn’t have to be done this way. I think the implicit learning is like, ‘Oh, fuck. Like they’re saying I did something wrong.'”

Paltrow and Martin’s conscious separation process came to an end in 2016, when their divorce was legally formalized. She has been married to television producer Brad Falchuk since 2018.
