“Marty Supreme” director Josh Safdie shed light on star Timothée Chalamet’s decision to take a violent spanking on his bare bottom during one of the film’s most scandalous moments.

At the New York Film Critics Circle Awards on Tuesday night, Safdie told The News that he “never got the feeling” that Chalamet “didn’t want to get whipped” during their extensive conversations about the script.

Still, the “Uncut Gems” director thought it made sense to have a “double butt” on hand for the scene, where Chalamet’s audacious ping-pong prodigy, Marty Mauser, agrees to be humiliated in exchange for one last hit on his table tennis dreams.

But when it came time to shoot, the “Dune” actor was taken aback by the sight of a stuntman, who allegedly asked Safdie, “What’s this guy doing here? It’s my butt.”

Although the filmmaker relented, he told the AP that he had Chalamet’s on-screen attacker, “Shark Tank” mogul Kevin O’Leary, rehearse with some blows on Safdie’s butt so his leading man could take as few beatings as possible.

“I told him, ‘First go to town with me and do it as hard as you have to,’” he recalled. “Because I remember [filmmaker] Werner Herzog once said, ‘I never ask an actor to do something you wouldn’t do yourself.’”

O’Leary, who reflects his own ruthless business personality as businessman Milton Rockwell in the film, was the first to share how Chalamet refused to let a later imitator steal his glory during a late December appearance on “The Adam Freidland Show.”

Telling the YouTuber that Chalamet didn’t agree when they suggested filming with a “substitute ass,” the Canadian business mogul said, “I wanted to immortalize his ass.”
