In an incendiary Truth Social post, President Donald Trump claimed that the woman who was shot and killed by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent was being “disruptive” in the moments leading up to the shooting, describing an incident that is very different compared to what footage of the shooting actually shows.

“[T]“The woman driving the car was very disorderly, obstructing and resisting, and then violently, intentionally and callously ran over the ICE officer, who appears to have shot her in self-defense,” Trump said.

Footage of the shooting shows two masked officers approaching the woman’s car as it blocks part of the road in front of the ICE agents’ truck, as one of them says, “Get out of the fucking car.” An officer grabs the driver’s door handle and reaches inside the vehicle, apparently causing the woman to back up and begin driving, turning the vehicle’s wheels to the right. An officer then shoots through the car’s open window, killing her.

Another video taken from further away appears to show the driver brushing against an officer as he drives away.

“Based on the attached video, it’s hard to believe he’s alive, but he’s now recovering in the hospital,” Trump said of the shooter.

“We need to stay out of it and protect our law enforcement officers from this movement of radical left-wing violence and hate!” concluded its publication.

The president’s description of the incident echoes that of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, who said the woman was committing “an act of domestic terrorism.”

“They were trying to push their vehicle and a woman attacked them and those around them, tried to run them over and ram them with her vehicle,” he said. “One of our officers acted quickly and fired defensively to protect himself and the people around him.”

As with Trump’s comments, Noem’s description of the events is not at all aligned with the incident shown on video.

He continued: “This demonstrates the attacks our ICE agents and law enforcement suffer every day. These vehicle rammings are acts of domestic terrorism.”

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey sharply criticized the Trump administration’s claims of self-defense.

“They are already trying to make this look like an action of self-defense. Having seen the video, I want to tell everyone directly: that is nonsense. This was an agent who recklessly used power and it resulted in someone’s death,” Frey said at a news conference.

“I have a message for ICE,” Frey continued. “To ICE: Get the hell out of Minneapolis.”
