David Letterman Shipwrecks
David Letterman isn’t sick of the group of “idiots” who now run the news division of his former television home at News.
Letterman, in a clip shared on his YouTube page on Friday, declared News a “disaster” amid its rightward shift under parent company Paramount CEO (and Trump ally) David Ellison, as well as Bari Weiss, the conservative journalist tapped to serve as editor-in-chief of the news division.
Letterman pointed to the history of News, particularly legendary journalist Edward R. Murrow’s broadcasts from London during the height of the Blitz in World War II.
“It was that mentality that drove the integrity of News that has been trampled, angered and gutted by these idiots who took over,” Letterman said.

Letterman is among several former News stars who have criticized News’ conservative tilt in recent months.
In July, he slammed News for its shocking decision to cancel the Stephen Colbert-led “Late Show,” a franchise that began more than three decades ago.
The cancellation was widely seen as the network bowing to political pressure, as Paramount sought to complete a merger with Skydance Media, which required approval from the Trump administration. News has insisted that its decision to end the “Late Show” was “a purely financial decision.”
“I think someday, if not today, the people at News who have manipulated and handled this are going to be embarrassed because this is cowardly,” Letterman said at the time.
Under its new leadership, News has faced backlash for pulling a “60 Minutes” segment that criticized the Trump administration and reducing the 38-page “News Evening News” principles manual to “five simple values” that guide the show. One of those values is “love” for the United States.
Tony Dokoupil, in his first week as permanent anchor of “News Evening News,” got off to a rocky start before facing criticism for fawning over Secretary of State Marco Rubio and “straddling” the deadly Jan. 6, 2021, attack.
