Dax Shepard explains why he offered to pay his daughter to freeze her eggs when she turned 18
Dax Shepard is willing to support his daughter Delta’s dream of becoming a mother, although it is still years away from achieving it.
On Monday’s episode of his “Armchair Expert” podcast, Shepard said he and Delta, 11, have already discussed ways to ensure she can have children in the future.
“She’s saying she wants to have a baby, and I said, ‘When do you think you’ll have your first child? When you turn 18?’ “I want to be supportive in whatever it is,” the actor recalled. “I don’t want to plant any seeds that make me judge or whatever.”
When Delta asked him for a suggestion, Shepard said he assumed he would like to welcome a child between 35 and 45 years old.
“I told her, ‘If you want, we’ll freeze your eggs when you’re 18. I’ll pay you to have your eggs frozen so you don’t have to think about it,'” Shepard explained.
After “acknowledging all the luck and privilege” that comes with the support of wealthy parents, she said Delta would probably “struggle with the same things as all women” in terms of balancing her career and personal life.
However, for now “she is thinking about being in her twenties” for when she would like to be a mother, she added.

In addition to Delta, Shepard also shares daughter Lincoln, 12, with wife Kristen Bell.
This is not the first time Shepard has broached the topic of pregnancy and procreation with Delta. In a 2025 episode of “Armchair Expert,” he recalled his daughter talking about Sabrina Carpenter’s 2024 song “Juno,” which shares a title with the 2007 film starring Michael Cera and Elliot Page.
“She says, ‘Yeah, it’s a story about a girl who gets pregnant,’” he joked. “I’m like, ‘That’s kind of gross.’ And she’s like, ‘What’s wrong with wanting to have a baby with someone?’”
Both Bell and Shepard have attracted attention with their parenting anecdotes in the past. In 2023, Bell revealed that at least one of her daughters had “ordered non-alcoholic beers at restaurants,” saying the girl reminded her of Shepard, who is recovering from alcohol addiction.
“He likes non-alcoholic beer, so he would open one (he had it on his chest) and we would walk and watch the sunset,” she explained at the time on “The Kelly Clarkson Show.” “When I was a baby, I would paw at it and sometimes suck on the edge.”
