Golden Globes host reveals Trump jokes that didn’t hit home
Golden Globes host Nikki Glaser didn’t think bits about President Donald Trump would make their way to her big party in Hollywood last weekend.
On Tuesday, the comedian talked about finding the “right tone” for the event during a post-event interview with radio icon Howard Stern, detailed by Entertainment Weekly. In it, he explained why several jokes about politics did not appear in his monologue.
Glaser said he relayed a joke made to him by comedy legend Steve Martin, choosing not to mock the recent renaming of the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., by telling awards show attendees that they were enjoying an evening at the “Trump Beverly Hilton.”
Explaining why he was cut, he said: “It was like you just didn’t say that guy’s name right now. I just want to give him space.”

Another joke that was left on the cutting room floor was about Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
“I was going to come in at some point and say, ‘I heard at the bar that we’re out of ice. And you know what? We don’t really need ICE. And in fact, I hate ICE. I haven’t even wanted ICE,'” Glaser told Stern, calling the joke too “trivial” to be worth telling any further.
While the stand-up talent didn’t lean heavily on politics for laughs during her performance, she did decide to take a quick swipe at News, the Golden Globes broadcaster, and her boss that night.
Teasing the network about pro-Trump changes supposedly happening behind the scenes, Glaser said, “News: America’s newest place to ‘watch BS News.’”
