An American governor is telling Americans to make a walk literally.

The governor of West Virginia, Patrick Morrisey, is encouraging residents to leave and walk at least one mile per day.

The State plans to designate “municipality mile paths” officials in its 32 state parks that have hiking routes.

It has also been shown that hiking in nature reduces anxiety and depression.

Stanford researchers have discovered that people who walked for 90 minutes in a natural outdoor environment showed a diminished activity in a region of the brain linked to depression.

“These results suggest that accessible natural areas can be vital for mental health in our rapid urbanizing world,” said Co -author Gretchen Daily, a bing professor in Environmental Sciences and main member of the Stanford Woods Environment Institute, in a study report.

“Our findings can help inform the growing movement around the world to make cities more habitable and make nature more accessible to all who live in them.”
