Wrong again: Kristi Noem clashes with CBS host on live TV over ICE operations in Minnesota

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem forcefully defended Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s operations in Minnesota during a tense exchange with News’ Margaret Brennan.

The conversation, which appeared on News’ “Face the Nation” on Sunday, began after Brennan asked Noem to detail the percentage of immigrants who had been detained by ICE and who “actually committed a criminal offense versus a just one.” [a] civil infraction.”

“Every individual has committed a crime, but 70% of them have committed or have charges against them for violent crimes, and crimes that they are accused of or have been convicted of that come from other countries that are here illegally, first of all, and then “They have committed a criminal act while they were here or also in their countries of origin,” Noem responded.

Brennan quickly stepped in to correct Noem, telling her, “It’s not 70%,” to which Noem responded, “Yes, it is. It absolutely is.”

“You keep changing your percentage. You pick and choose what numbers you think work, but those are the facts… 70% of the people we’ve arrested have charges against them or have been convicted of charges, and they should be brought to justice,” Noem said.

He added: “And we are going to continue to do it no matter how much they continue to lie and not tell the public the truth.”

Noem went on to argue that law enforcement officers are “out there every day doing the job to protect the American people,” adding, “They will continue to do so because they believe in enforcing the law, which is exactly what President Trump has accused them of.”

Brennan didn’t let Noem off the hook.

“Well, our reporting is 47% based on your agency’s own numbers; 47% have criminal convictions against them. But let’s talk about the other numbers,” the host declared, prompting Noem to argue that she was “wrong again.”

“We’ll give you the correct numbers so you can use them in the future,” he replied before Brennan responded, “Well, that’s from your agency.”

Early in the interview, Brennan pressed Noem on how ICE could possibly know they’ve “taken everyone off the streets” in Minnesota, citing data from the Pew Research Center.

“According to Pew, Minnesota’s illegal immigrant population is 2.2%. So how can you judge when everyone who is said to be demanding federal agents [to] be there? How do we say we have had? [the] “Mission accomplished?” she questioned.

“Well, we won’t stop until we are sure that all dangerous people are arrested, brought to justice, and then deported back to their home countries,” Noem responded before shifting the blame to the Biden administration.

Stating that “we wouldn’t be in this situation if Joe Biden hadn’t allowed our open border policies to be in place and allowed up to 20 million people into this country illegally,” Noem later admitted that “we have no idea how many dangerous people are here.”

He alleged that “I can’t tell the people of Minnesota exactly how many dangerous criminals they have” because there were “millions of people” who are “terrorists, suspected terrorists.” [and] criminals” who came to the United States due to the “mass migration facilitated by the Biden administration,” and argued that the citizens of Minnesota are “extremely grateful every time we take a pedophile off the street.”

“Sure, but you just said millions,” Brennan responded.
