Race venues to finish, US hockey star injured: Live updates from Winter Olympics

The starting signal is about to sound at the Cortina Games in Milan, and News will be live blogging the biggest moments from Italy.

From the medals to the controversies and the human stories behind the competition, we’ll follow it all before and during the Winter Olympics.

The competition begins on February 4, with the opening ceremony scheduled for February 6 at Milan’s iconic San Siro stadium, featuring performances by Mariah Carey, Andrea Bocelli and Laura Pausini, among others.

The Games will conclude on February 22 with the Closing Ceremony at the historic Verona Arena, a UNESCO World Heritage Site Roman amphitheater in the heart of Verona.

More than a century ago, in January 1924, some 258 athletes from 16 countries gathered in the French Alpine resort of Chamonix to take part in the first Winter Olympic Games, and much of it was caught on camera.

American Olympic champion skier Lindsey Vonn has revealed in a new interview with People magazine why she came out of retirement in a bid to compete at the Milan Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics.

Vonn stepped away from competitive skiing after the 2018 Winter Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea.

But the opportunity to return to Cortina, where he took his first World Cup podium in front of his father and mother, who died in 2022, combined with being pain-free after a partial titanium knee replacement, proved too tempting to ignore, he said.

Japanese Olympic halfpipe champion Ayumu Hirano broke several bones in his face after a serious accident at the Laax Open over the weekend.

However, the 27-year-old is still included in Japan’s squad, and his national federation has said he will return to training once the swelling subsides.

Fresh off a highly celebrated role as hockey players Ilya Rozanov and Shane Hollander on Crave’s”Heated rivalry” In the series, stars Connor Storrie and Hudson Williams were named as two of the torchbearers for the 2026 Olympics, Olympics.com reported Thursday.

American Olympic champion skier Lindsey Vonn has revealed in a new interview with People magazine why she came out of retirement in a bid to compete at the Milan Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics.

Vonn stepped away from competitive skiing after the 2018 Winter Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea.

Olympic snowboarding champion breaks several bones in terrifying accident

Japanese Olympic halfpipe champion Ayumu Hirano broke several bones in his face after a serious accident at the Laax Open over the weekend.

However, the 27-year-old is still included in Japan’s squad, and his national federation has said he will return to training once the swelling subsides.

Prince William and Kate Middleton got into the spirit of the Winter Olympics with some curling in Scotland this week.

The Prince and Princess of Wales met British Olympic and Paralympic players ahead of the Milan 2026 Cortina Games during a tour of the National Curling Center in Stirling.

The Milan Cortina 2026 Games will be the most extended Olympic Games in history.

The two host cities, Milan and Cortina, are approximately 400 kilometers apart. And with 25 venues spread across nearly 8,500 square miles, it will mean hours of travel between some events.

American hockey star Seth Jones ruled out of the Olympics due to injury

An injury that Florida Panthers star Seth Jones suffered during an ice hockey game earlier this month left him off the United States’ roster for the 2026 Winter Olympics, USA Hockey announced Wednesday.

Jones will be replaced by Jackson LaCombe of the Anaheim Ducks.

Team USA’s first game will be against Latvia on February 12.

Figure skater earns Olympic berth a year after losing both parents in plane crash

Maxim Naumov, whose parents died in the commercial airliner crash last January in Washington, D.C., will represent the United States in figure skating at the Milan Cortina Olympics.

Organizers race to complete Winter Olympic venues in time for games

The Milan Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic sliding center and ice hockey stadium are almost complete, but some work is still needed so they can be delivered for the Games in 16 days, the International Olympic Committee said on Wednesday.

“There is still work to be done? Yes, a lot,” admitted one IOC director, adding: “But what I have been told is that it is not a complex job.”
