Lightning struck near a rally by supporters of Brazil’s far-right former president Jair Bolsonaro in Brasilia on Sunday, injuring 89 people, according to the fire department.
Thousands of people gathered in the rain in the Brazilian capital to support Bolsonaro, who was sentenced to 27 years in prison last year for leading a failed coup after his narrow re-election loss.

Images shared online show crowds with colorful umbrellas and plastic ponchos stunned by a sudden flash of light and a booming sound.
Firefighters told News they treated 89 people at the scene, including 47 who were taken to hospitals.
Eleven people “required significant medical attention,” the fire department added.
The meeting was organized by Brazilian legislator Nikolas Ferreira to demand “amnesty” for Bolsonaro.
The former head of state is imprisoned in the Papuda prison complex, in Brasilia.
He suffers serious health complications related to a stabbing in 2018 during the election campaign and spent a week in the hospital in December after surgery for an inguinal hernia and treatment for recurrent hiccups.
He was tested earlier this month after a fall in prison, but no serious injuries were found.
