He Pope Francis’s funeral On Saturday, St. Peter’s Square attracted a crowd that included kings and queens, Presidents and prime ministers, cardinals and archbishops, as well as thousands of devout followers touched by their commitment to the poor, their defense of migrants from the world and their reach with which the Church marginalized by the Church.

President Trump and world leaders who attend
The Vatican said that the delegations of some 130 countries would attend the ceremony, including about 50 heads of state and 10 reigning monarchs. President Trump and the first lady Melania Trump were there, and former president Joe Biden He also attended. Before funeral, Mr. Trump met privately with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Funeral and homily mass in honor of “a Pope among the people”
The Mass was directed by Cardinal Giovanni Battista Re, the 91 -year dean of the Cardinals Collegewho also delivered a highly personal homily.
“He was a Pope among the people, with an open heart to everyone,” Re about Pope Francis, who He died at the age of 88. “The guide thread of its mission was also the conviction that the Church is a home for all, a home with its always open doors.”

The crowds present their last respect for Pope Francis
After the funeral mass, Pope Francis’s coffin was taken in a procession aboard Popemobile through the streets of Rome to its final resting place, the Basilica of Santa María Maggiore (St. Mary Major). In his Last will and testamentFrancis asked to be buried in that church of the fifth century dedicated to the Virgin Mary, where he went to pray before and after his foreign trips as a pontiff.
