Republican senator loses it after Ketanji Brown Jackson assists
Ketanji Brown Jackson did not return home a winner after Sunday’s Grammy Awards, but the Supreme Court justice’s mere presence at the star-studded ceremony was enough for one Republican lawmaker to call for an investigation.
Sen. Marisa Blackburn (R-Tenn.) said Thursday that she was concerned about Jackson’s ability to remain “above political influence” after watching her participate in the Grammys, which she called a “highly politicized” event.
“We need an investigation into Judge Jackson’s ability to remain impartial,” Blackburn wrote in X.
That same day, Blackburn confirmed via his website that he had sent a letter to Chief Justice John Roberts urging him to “initiate an investigation” into Jackson’s participation in an event that featured “many polarized and highly charged sentiments against law enforcement.”
“While it is by no means unheard of or unusual for a Supreme Court justice to attend a public function, very rarely – if ever – have our nation’s Supreme Court justices been present at an event where attendees have amplified such far-left rhetoric,” Blackburn wrote.

He also singled out Bad Bunny and Billie Eilish, who used their Grammy acceptance speeches to condemn President Donald Trump’s crackdown on immigrants, as well as the many stars who wore “ICE Out” badges denouncing the actions of Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents after the fatal shootings of Renee Nicole Good and Alex Pretti in Minneapolis.
“I urge you to initiate an investigation into Judge Jackson’s attendance at this event and whether his participation would in any way require recusal from matters that will be presented before the Court,” he concluded.
News themezone reached out to the Supreme Court’s Public Information Office for comment on Blackburn’s comments but did not immediately receive a response.
Jackson was first nominated for a Grammy for the audio version of her 2024 memoir, “Lovely One.” It lost in the spoken word album category to the Dalai Lama, who won for “Meditations: The Reflections of His Holiness the Dalai Lama.”
Still, Jackson seemed to have fun at the Los Angeles ceremony, happily posing for photos with Queen Latifah and producer Pat Houston, sister-in-law of the late pop singer Whitney Houston, among other notables.
Grammys host Trevor Noah criticized Trump several times during the ceremony. In his opening monologue, he joked that Trump would boast about having a bigger “butt” than rapper Nicki Minaj, who has fully embraced the president’s MAGA agenda in recent weeks.
Trump, in turn, called the Grammys “terrible” in a Monday post on his Truth Social platform.
