Colbert’s jokes about former Prince Andrew’s charges seem familiar:

Stephen Colbert cheerfully announced Thursday on “The Late Show” that there is a new spring in his step, and not just because the snow melting on New York sidewalks makes him “want to jump on all that poop” that is thawing after weeks of frigid weather.

“Also because this morning the former Prince Andrew was arrested following revelations in Epstein’s files,” he explained. “Yes, finally someone, anyone! Let’s hear it! Let’s hear it for British justice, which is better… than American justice because it comes with frilly wigs.”

While the joke drew laughter from the audience, the actual news drew applause.

President Donald Trump has since described the matter as “a shame” and “a very sad thing,” and told reporters that he himself has been “totally exonerated” of any possible wrongdoing related to Epstein, pointing to files released by his Justice Department as alleged evidence.

“Technically, this arrest is not due to any pedophilia charges,” Colbert explained Thursday.

U.K. authorities detained him on suspicion of “misconduct in public office, defined as ‘gross intentional abuse or neglect of the power or responsibilities of public office held,’ which not only is not illegal in the United States, but was Trump’s campaign slogan,” he joked.

Colbert went on to share a now-viral image, taken by Reuters photographer Phil Noble, that showed the disgraced former royal looking stunned and hunched over in the back of a car as he was driven away from the police station after his arrest.

“It’s a classic pose known as Nosferatu,” he joked about the apparent resemblance.

Trump did not share more details about where the money comes from or how it can be spent.

Colbert jokingly compared this board to the United Nations, “except instead of passing binding resolutions, you pass a greasy bag of money to Donald Trump” and pay a billion dollars to secure a permanent seat, and said it therefore appears to function exactly like a traditional strip club.

He explained: “Cash only and Donald Trump will never go away.”
