Alternative cancer treatment could replace chemotherapy and surgery, the study suggests

“The use of standard treatment of surgery, radiation and chemotherapy to treat rectal cancer is effective,” said Cercek.

In the expanded trial, which contained 103 patients, there were 49 patients with rectal cancer and 54 patients with other types of cancer. Participants received infusions from intravenous control point inhibitors over six months, according to release.

In the 49 patients with rectal cancer, there was no evidence of cancer after immunotherapy.
