Flavor Flav made a big pitch to the U.S. women’s hockey team on Monday after the Olympic gold medalists turned down an invitation from President Donald Trump, who is facing criticism for joking that he “would have to” include them in plans for the men’s team to visit the nation’s capital.

The team accepted his offer to celebrate with him in Las Vegas, the rapper later commented in a social media post.

Previously, the Public Enemy rapper and Team USA hype man took to social media to address the women winners, writing, “If the US Women’s Hockey Team wants a real celebration and invite…I’ll welcome them to Las Vegas.”

He continued, “Put on some nice dinners, shows and good times. I’m sure I can get a hotel and airline to help me and celebrate these women really, really. πŸ‘πŸΎπŸ‘πŸΎπŸ‘πŸΎ.”

Flav’s speech came after Trump made controversial comments during a congratulatory phone call with the gold medal-winning U.S. men’s hockey team, where he offered to take the athletes to his State of the Union address on Tuesday on a trip that would include a visit to the White House the next day.

“And we have to, I have to tell you, we’re going to have to bring in the women’s team,” Trump said, whose comment sparked laughter among American men. β€œ[If I don’t] If I do that, I think they will probably charge me, okay?”

A spokesperson for USA Hockey, which oversees both teams, later shared that the White House invited the American women to attend the SOTU speech, but the players ultimately declined the offer, citing scheduling conflicts.

GOP leadership has shared that it is working out the logistics of getting members of the men’s team to DC in time for the speech.

It is unclear whether members of either hockey team will attend Trump’s proposed visit to the White House scheduled for Wednesday.

The president previously honored American women when they took gold at the 2018 PyeongChang Games, although that White House ceremony was made up of Olympic and Paralympic athletes from various sports.

Flav, a fixture at the Paris 2024 Games when he signed on as a sponsor and hype man for the US women’s water polo team, represented the red, white and blue team in Italy this month while cheering on the US bobsleigh and skeleton team.

On Monday, Flav wrote that he intends to include the sleigh and the skeleton in his big celebration in Las Vegas. She later shared a screenshot of a party speech apparently sent on her behalf to Doug Ferry, manager of hockey operations and events for the US women’s team.

Flav noted on her Instagram Stories that she is considering hosting the celebration at the end of Women’s Professional Hockey League action. The 2025-26 PWHL season resumes Thursday, with the playoffs typically concluding in late May.
