Cheryl Hines’ ex-friend opens up about why they don’t talk anymore
Friendship breakups are hard and it seems that the comedian Tig Notaro He is still recovering from what he had with Cheryl Hines.
On Monday’s episode of MS NOW Podcast Host of “The Best People” Nicolle Wallace the “One Mississippi” star asked about his fight with his old friend and “Curb Your Enthusiasm” alum.

Notaro placed the blame squarely on Hines’ husband, the Secretary of Health and Human Services. Robert F. Kennedy Jr.and how Hines “changed very severely” by adopting MAGA values.
“I had to shake myself out of the denial of ‘Oh, she’s gone’ and ‘Oh, okay, I need to let this go. I need to let it go,'” Notaro said. “I was trying to be her friend. [despite her MAGA ties]. …But it has been very strange and I think I have overcome the confusion and sadness.”
When Wallace mentioned to Notaro later in the episode that Kennedy and Hines’ values could threaten “the people you love or your own family,” Notaro responded with:
“I know it threatens the people I love.”
Notaro added: “It goes beyond ‘I think I could.’ I know that’s true.”
“When you see people’s choices that are so confusing,” Notaro later continued, “and that change so wildly on issues that you thought they valued, and then you realize… ‘Was there really any heel entrenched in any area? In any area?'”
From 2020 to 2023, Notaro and Hines co-hosted the podcast “Tig and Cheryl: True Story”, in which the duo would basically have extremely silly conversations about documentaries.
The Oscar-nominated comedian told Wallace that a video recently “popped up” on her phone that reminded her of how quickly Hines seemed to change.

“Cheryl and I were very attracted to each other just because of silliness and silliness, and we were laughing deeper and harder. And this video came up a couple of weeks ago when we had our podcast. We were doing an episode streaming and taking takes and slapping each other with tortillas. And I was just watching it and I thought, ‘Man, that was just three years ago.'”
Notaro told Wallace that although his friendship with Hines “predates Bobby,” it began to unravel in 2023, when there were rumors that Kennedy might run for president. Notaro said that although she does not share the same views as Kennedy, fans began booing her at her stand-up shows just because of her proximity to him.
“I know it’s a small percentage that rejects things online or yells at shows, but I was like, ‘Man, this isn’t my world. I don’t do this. I don’t want to be a part of this.’ And she was like, ‘I get it,'” Notaro said.
“I think I had to stop doing the podcast, because it was so ridiculous, so stupid (our show) that it was hard to do it when he was gaining momentum and talking,” Notaro said. “I had to walk away, but I loved her very much.”

Notaro left the podcast in May 2023, just a month later Kennedy launched his 2024 presidential campaign.
This is not the first time Notaro has publicly regretted his friendship with Hines. she did similar comments to the “Breaking Bread With Tom Papa” podcast last year, in which she also noted that she was friends with Hines before marrying Kennedy in 2014.

“The beliefs he had were like a mosquito on my arm,” Notaro said of Kennedy. “But then it started to grow and Cheryl wanted me to listen to Bobby. They had good ideas and I was like, ‘I can’t, I can’t, I can’t.’ I just didn’t trust it. And then she endorsed Trump, and then things got tough.”
Hines has also spoken publicly about the end of her friendship with Notaro.
“When I felt very strongly about her, there was not much I could do but leave my husband.” Hines told Howie Mandel on his podcast last year..
It should be noted that Hines expressed her pain over her fight with Notaro while speaking to Mandel, despite his many attempts to get her to badmouth Notaro. Hines got into a bit of hot air by finally implying that she was responsible for Notaro’s career.
“This is what she feels she needs to do for herself,” Hines said. “And she feels like she needs to distance herself from me.”
However, Notaro told Wallace on Monday that he tried to maintain his friendship with Hines even after he left his now-defunct podcast.
The comedian said she often sent Hines “love and support,” and Hines responded “very nicely,” but after a while, she began to notice that their interactions were becoming one-sided.
“One day I realized that she doesn’t contact me anymore. She answers me, but she doesn’t contact me,” Notaro said.
