Sarah Michelle Gellar says
A “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” reboot is no longer in the works, Sarah Michelle Gellar announced.
“So, I’m really sad to have to share this, but I wanted you all to hear it from me,” the actress, who was set to reprise her eponymous role as Buffy Summers, said Saturday in a video posted to Instagram.
“Buffy the Vampire Slayer: New Sunnydale” was scheduled to air on Hulu and serve as a sequel to the original ’90s supernatural drama. In her video, Gellar said the streaming service had “decided not to move forward” with the series.
The actor thanked director Chloé Zhao, who was involved in the reboot as director and executive producer.
“I never thought I’d wear Buffy’s stylish but affordable boots again, and thanks to Chloé, I was reminded how much I love her and how much she means not only to me, but to all of you,” Gellar said. “And this doesn’t change any of that.”

Hulu did not immediately respond to a request for comment from News, but Variety reported that a source close to the show said the company has “a lot of love” for Buffy and that “basically, the door is still open” for related projects.

Gellar concluded her video with a riff on a famous line from the original “Buffy.”
“And I promise you, if the apocalypse really comes, you can still call me,” he said.
