At long last, the 2026 Oscars marked the end of this long rollercoaster of an awards season on Sunday night as “One Battle After Another” continued to dominate the ceremony.
The black comedy-thriller directed by Paul Thomas Anderson won six statuettes, including Best Picture, Director, Supporting Actor, Adapted Screenplay, Editing and Casting.
“Sinners,” Ryan Coogler’s hit horror film that led the ceremony with a record 16 nominations, won four Oscars: Best Actor, Original Screenplay, Original Score and Cinematography.
“Frankenstein,” Guillermo del Toro’s science fiction adaptation of Mary Shelley’s novel of the same name, won three awards; The global phenomenon “K-Pop Demon Hunters” took home two trophies.
Comedian Conan O’Brien returned to host the ceremony for the second time. He wasted no time telling jokes, directing his monologue and other comedic bits at President Donald Trump, Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos, and, of course, Best Actor nominee Timothée Chalamet, who took several hits throughout the night.
“Sinners” star Michael B. Jordan won the Oscar for Best Actor, his first win and first nomination. That race had narrowed in recent weeks after Jordan took the SAG Actor Award over Chalamet, who starred in “Marty Supreme.” Chalamet, who won the Golden Globe for Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Motion Picture – Comedy/Musical, has made headlines for his comments about ballet and opera, saying that “no one cares” about these art forms.
“Hamnet” star Jessie Buckley won Best Actress, a victory that was hardly surprising considering she had basically locked up the category all awards season.
For the first time, the academy presented an award for Best Casting, which went to Cassandra Kulukundis, casting director of “One Battle After Another.”

“Paul Thomas Anderson”One battle after another” took home six Academy Awards on Sunday night, including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay.
The much-discussed action thriller was an awards season favorite, despite some public criticism for certain portrayals in the film, particularly the fetishization of black female characters like Teyana Taylor’s Beverly Hills Perfidy.
Speaking to News from the Oscars press room after the ceremony, the filmmaker acknowledged that he knows “a little bit about that criticism,” and noted that “it’s complicated.”
“I know that Teyana [Taylor] “He’s talked a lot about it,” Anderson said. “I know that we have the interpretation of many different characters. In particular, his character, who has many flaws and, unfortunately, makes decisions that are detrimental to the revolution he is trying to fight.”
She continued, “It’s complicated. We always knew we were trying to do something complicated. We knew we weren’t doing something heroic, and we needed to lean into that. And we needed to acknowledge the fact that this woman not only suffered from postpartum depression, but she also had her own issues that she hadn’t really come to terms with.”
The director added: “It’s a very dangerous thing when you start out, you want to change the world, but you start to get selfish and you read your own criticism. That was our hero in Perfidy, who becomes an anti-hero. The goal is to establish a story of Willa, the next generation. What happens when your parents, who are damaged and have left you with a pretty difficult history, how do you handle it? That’s our story, and our story is in Chase [Infiniti] and its evolution, as I spoke, in the generational aspect, to try to do it better.”

EJAE, Mark Sonnenblick, Joong Gyu Kwak, Yu Han Lee, Hee Dong Nam, Jeong Hoon Seo and Teddy Park won the Oscar for Best Original Song for their song “Golden” from Netflix’s “Kpop Demon Hunters.” The song is the first K-pop track to win an Oscar.
But their moment on the Oscar stage was cut too short when the orchestra started playing them at full volume offstage.
“When I was a kid, everyone made fun of me for liking K-pop. And now everyone sings our song,” EJAE said.
Then his co-writer, Yu-Han Lee, approached the microphone to thank him and was quickly interrupted.
The ceremony suddenly became commercial. It was certainly an awkward moment.

While on the red carpet at the Academy Awards, Roach doubled down on his previous comments that the couple secretly married.
When asked if he wanted to clarify his previous statement, the celebrity hairstylist simply smiled and replied, “No.”
When asked again if Zendaya is really married, Roach kept the mystery alive with a cheeky response: “I said what I said.”
Earlier this month, while attending the Actor Awards, he joked that his wedding had “already happened” and everyone missed it.

Sunday’s tie for Best Live Action Short Film, between “The Singers” and “Two People Exchanging Saliva,” is the seventh tie to occur in Oscar history. Reflecting on the rare moment after their wins, “The Singers” filmmaker Sam Davis told USA Today in an interview backstage at the Oscars: “None of us could imagine what the outcome would be.”
“To me, that was incredible,” added producer Jack Piatt. “To be honest, I wish we could have a five-way tie.”
“Two People Exchanging Saliva” director Natalie Musteata also told the outlet that the tie was “a dream,” adding, “Someone on Reddit asked us if we’d be happy to share the prize and we said, ‘Hell yeah!’ We would love to share with another film that is equally beautiful and totally different.”

The film documents the intact rooms of children who died in school shootings across the United States.

Sean Penn won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor, but he did not attend Sunday’s ceremony, reportedly due to travel plans in Europe while looking to visit Ukraine.
Penn, who won the Oscar for his role as Colonel Steven J. Lockjaw in “One battle after another,” He has been a fierce defender of Ukraine and the Ukrainian people following the Russian invasion of the country in 2022.
Shortly after, the actor met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and presented him with his first statuette for his Oscar-winning performance in “Mystic River,” The Hollywood Reporter recently discovered it.
At the time, Penn said he hoped Zelenskyy, by keeping the statuette, could”Bring it back to Malibu” when he defeated Russia.
After Penn failed to appear on Sunday and host Kieran Culkin accepted his latest statuette in his absence, The New York Times reported that the actor was not present as he planned to visit Ukraine late last week.
The reason for Penn’s visit is unclear, although his absence from Sunday’s ceremony comes after he skipped the BAFTA and Actor Awards, the Times noted.

Anna Wintour hugs her “The devil wears Prada” reputation as the release of the film’s long-awaited sequel approaches.
The Condé Nast chief content officer appeared alongside actress Anne Hathaway at the 2026 Oscars on Sunday to present the awards for Best Costume Design and Best Makeup and Hairstyling, both for “Frankenstein.”
When Hathaway asked Wintour to read the nominees for the latter category, Wintour winked at her film counterpart, Meryl Streep’s Miranda Priestly, and joked:”Thank you, Emily.”
2006″The devil wears Prada” was based on the best-selling novel by Lauren Weisberger, who worked briefly at Vogue during Wintour’s 37 years as editor-in-chief of the fashion publication.
Hathaway will reprise her role as Andrea”andy” Sachs in “The Devil Wears Prada 2,” which will be out in May. In addition to Hathaway and Streep, Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci also return for the sequel.

Sometimes the world is a little clueless, and in this case, that’s not a bad thing.
While walking the Oscars red carpet on Sunday, Alicia Silverstone took a moment to revisit the film that made her a pop culture icon: the 1995 teen classic.”Clueless.”
Silverstone, who played the famous and oft-quoted Cher Horowitz, was stopped by Variety and asked a question that many fans have probably wondered: What is your favorite line from the movie?
Surprisingly, it is not the popular “As if!”
Instead, Silverstone pointed out a quote from the late Brittany Murphy, who played Tai Frasier in the film.
“You’re a virgin who can’t drive,” Silverstone recalled, referencing the iconic moment in which Tai snaps at Cher during an argument.
She also shared another favorite, which is the scene where Cher almost hits a cyclist while driving and casually shrugs her shoulders saying, “Oops, that’s too bad.”
However, when asked when he last saw the film, the actor admitted he honestly couldn’t remember before letting out a cheeky laugh.
Even nearly three decades later, it’s clear that the film’s most memorable lines still live rent-free in everyone else’s heads.

#HudsonWilliams previews what fans can expect in season 2 of #HeatedRivalry:

Fans are still excited after the release of “Heated Rivalry” season 1. The much-talked-about series, which debuted on HBO Max nine days after it premiered on Canadian network Crave, has officially been renewed for a second season.
Based on the books by Rachel Reid, the show quickly captured audiences with its mix of romance, tension, and emotional vulnerability. While season 2 won’t arrive until spring 2027 (yes, unfortunately, that far away), fans are already wondering what the next chapter will bring.
During the Oscars red carpet, Variety caught up with Hudson Williams, who plays Shane Hollander on the show, and asked him what audiences can expect from the upcoming season.
Your answer? Just one word.
“Sex.”
Then he said it again for emphasis.
Considering that Season 1 already featured plenty of steamy moments between the characters, Williams’ teasing response suggests that the next installment may turn up the heat even more.
So if the first season left you blushing, you might want to prepare accordingly. Maybe you have an ice bucket nearby.

“One Battle After Another” just won the Oscar for Best Picture at the 98th Academy Awards. Paul Thomas Anderson directed the film, which dominated the 2026 awards season.
The film won six Oscars Sunday night, including Best Director, Supporting Actor, Adapted Screenplay, Editing and Casting.
The film competed with “Sinners,” “Bugonia,” “Frankenstein,” “Hamnet,” “Marty Supreme,” “The Secret Agent,” “Sentimental Value” and “Train Dreams” in the Best Picture category.
Paul Thomas Anderson Addresses ‘Battle After Battle’ Criticism of Portrayals of Black Female Characters: ‘It’s Complicated’
