Neil Degrasse Tyson left fans divided this week posing with red hats that presented variations in the slogan “Make America Great Again” by President Donald Trump. ”

On Monday, celebrity astrophysicist published a photo on his social networks platforms in which he was held by four hats that read, respectively, “Make America Great Again”, “Make America Smart Again”, “Make Sting Wrong Again” and “Relax is just a red hat”.

“Decisions, decisions,” Tyson wrote in the accompanying title. “What hat used today?”

In X, previously Twitter also conducted a survey that allowed viewers to vote in favor of the hat they preferred. Until Wednesday, “make lying wrong again” was in the lead.

Fans, however, seemed insecure if Tyson intended to be seen as Trump’s support, or a biased of the president and his administration.

“Nothing about the Maga Agenda (which you are clearly trying to desensitize people here) is fun,” wrote a person on Instagram. “As a scientist, and especially scientist with a platform, you must be ashamed of yourself.”

He added another, “I’m sorry Neil, I have to stop continuing. It’s crazy for me to follow a white nationalist cult leader who is destroying the largest country in the world. My mind is fly.”

Others, however, were more supportive.

“Neil is my favorite influencer now,” one wrote, while another suggested that “get 3 more and have one for every day of the week!”

Tyson’s representatives did not respond to News’s request for comments on the photo. Even so, Tyson has been critical of the Trump administration and its policies in other recent social media publications.

“As a man tan of the Middle East, if Jesus were an undocumented American immigrant, I wonder if angry mobs would get the sport, especially for speaking against greed and advocating for the poor,” he wrote on Instagram earlier this month.

Tyson is not the first celebrity to polarize fans by referring to a red hat that many perceived as a political gesture.
