The former head of Senator John Fetterman wrote a letter to a doctor involved with the treatment of Pensylvania senator for clinical depression, detailing “warning signals” and expressing concern for the mental health of the senator.

New York magazine reported Friday that Adam Jentleson, who served as Fetterman Cabinet Chief from 2022 to 2024, listed a series of concerns in the letter, including the concern that the senator did not take his medicine as prescribed and did not follow with checks.

Jentleson had previously communicated updates on the attention of the senator to the public after Fetterman was recorded in a hospital in February 2023 to receive treatment for clinical depression. Fetterman remained there for six weeks and declared his depression “in remission” when he left. Fetterman previously had a stroke in May 2022, during his Senate campaign.

A year after Fetterman completed his treatment for hospitalized patients, Jentleson detailed the “warning signs that we discussed” David Williamson, a doctor who had helped with Fetterman’s care at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.

“I think John is in a bad career and I am really worried about him,” Jentleson said in his letter, according to Ny Mag. The New York Times also obtained a copy of the letter, which was sent by email with the matter line, “concerns.”

“Conspirator thinking; megalomania (for example, claims to be the most knowledgeable source of Israel and Gaza, but its sources are just what you read in the news: it declines most of the informative sessions and never reads memoraries); high and low high and low; Agreement, in accordance, in accordance, in accordance, in accordance, agree, agree, agree, agree, agree, agree, agree, agree, agree, agree, agree, in accordance, in accordance, agree, in accordance, agree, agree, agree, in accordance, agree, agree, agree, agree, agree, agree, agree, agree, to the whole world.

Jentleson also expressed concern that Fetterman bought a gun, and said he had warned others who did not get into a car with Fetterman if the senator was driving.

The New York Times reports that Fetterman called Ny Mag’s article, which also detailed the concerns of other employees and supposedly worried comments of Fetterman’s wife Gisele, a “success piece”, and said “my doctors and my family said I am very good.” Gisele Fetterman told Ny Mag Jentleson said “terrifying and false stories about John’s health.”

During his time in the Senate, Fetterman is known as a firm ally for Israel, and has been more willing to break with progressive Democrats in a series of issues.
