Colman Domingo paid tribute to the André Leon Talley fashion icon before surprising everyone with a second look during the Met Gala on Monday.

The actor, who served as one of the co -chants of the night, arrived with a layer of Valentino Blue Royal pleated with bright gold brocade on his shoulders and a daring Boucheron necklace in layers at the top.

Domingo’s blue layer evoked the style of the deceased editor in general of Vogue, which often covered its imposing figure of 6 feet and 6 inches in bulky layers, tunics and caffetes.

The set resembled the elements of Talley’s appearance for the Met 2011 Gala, which was dedicated to English fashion renegade Alexander McQueen.

After making a dramatic entrance, Sunday took off the layer to reveal an explosion of textures and monochromatic patterns.

His black and white window jacket played with gray melanage pants, a top -top top with high stripes and a white vest, which he accessed with a polka dots and a matching brooch.

Domingo thanked Talley for the creative doors that he opened during generations of black men to follow while observing the exhibition of “Superfine: Saperfine: Saperfing Black Style” of MET on Saturday.

“If I can point out someone’s head back to history to understand how we get here, because it’s not just because I’m here,” he said in a video posted on the MET Instagram account. “It’s because André Leon Talley was here.”

“It’s because all these other artisans, people and human beings were here,” he added. “And so, it is extraordinary. I think it will be very shocking, powerful and surprisingly, very emotional.”

Talley, who died in 2022, was the first African -American male creative director of Vogue and served as a general editor of the magazine from 1998 to 2013.

While he was on the red carpet, Domingo deepened in the story that inspired his outfit.

“I started with this beautiful brocade, custom, Valentino that represents, I feel inspired by the Moors, I was inspired by the kings,” Tonight told Entertainment.

“I took the representation of only the color, the particular blue color. A free slave once said: ‘I wanted to save some money to use my best super fine wool wool suit,’ so I wanted to use the blue color. And also the blue color was my favorite color in which my mother loved me.”
