Some Republicans express concern for Trump

Washington, May 13 (Reuters) – Multiple Republicans of Congress raised concerns on Tuesday about the desire of President Donald Trump to accept a $ 400 million plane of Qatar, and at least one would notice to do so could represent a security risk.

Trump said Monday that he would be “stupid” for him to reject Qatar’s offer of the Boeing 747-8 plane, which would be used as “Air Force One”, Jet’s US presidents travel when they fly all over the world.

The plane would eventually be donated to Trump’s presidential library.

“There will be a lot of scrutiny,” journalists told the leader of the Republican Senate, John Thune from South Dakota. “There are many problems around that, I think they will attract very serious questions.”

The president of the Senate Committee, Ted Cruz de Texas, a Republican who has long been critical of Qatar’s foreign policy, told CNBC that he had concerns about such agreement.

“The plane poses important spying and surveillance problems, so we will see how this problem develops,” he said.

The Department of Defense is already in the process of acquiring a replacement for the current and aged Air Force, with the delivery of Boeing expected in a couple of years.

The Senate Democratic leader, Chuck Schumer, previously promised to block all Trump nominees to the Department of Justice until the agency reports what he knows about Qatar’s offer. Three nominees are currently before the Senate.

“The attorney general must testify to the Chamber and the Senate to explain why to give Donald Trump a private plane does not violate the emolument clause (of the Constitution of the United States), which requires the approval of Congress,” he told the Senate in a speech.

Schumer, from New York, said he wants responses to whether the Qatar government will pay the modifications of the necessary aircraft to protect the president, ensure communications and provide special settings for what in practice is a work space of the oval office in the air.

If the United States government must support those costs, Schumer said: “Why are US taxpayers ask for hundreds of millions of dollars or more on an airplane that will only be used for a year or two?”

A White House spokesman said Monday that the gift details were still organizing. A new 747-8 commercial costs approximately $ 400 million.

External ethical experts have listed a variety of Trump activities that could point to the president using his office to enrich his family. Schumer specifically mentioned a $ Trump meme coin, plans a new Trump hotel in Dubai and a new golf course in Qatar.

Republican senator Rand Paul de Kentucky, one of the most rebellious members of his party, said Trump taking the plane would be a mistake.

“I think it is not worth the appearance of incorrectness,” “News” Jesse Watters Primetime “told the program of News on Monday night. “I wouldn’t take it.”
