Sarah Sherman of “Saturday Night Live” says he feels “terrible” for hurting the star of “The White Lotus” Aimee Lou Wood with a little flattering imitation last month.
The comic explained his intentions while talking about the controversial sketch in a new interview with Vanity Fair, where he said: “She was excited to interpret her because she is so iconic, her character is so iconic and obviously never intended to hurt anyone’s feelings.”
“Never in a million years I got into comedy so that someone would bother,” Sherman added. “I feel terrible that someone feels bad.”
The morning after the apparently poorly conceived parody was broadcast on April 12, Wood told his Instagram followers that he found the way the sketch mocked his unique “evil” and “fun” smile.

The British actor said that he thought there should be “a more intelligent, more nuanced” and “less cheap” way to satirize HBO’s blow without Sherman using cartoon teeth and use an exaggerated Manchester accent.
Taking the message, Sherman then apologized by sending the star a bouquet of flowers that Wood published to his Instagram.
In the light of the reaction, Sherman told Vanity Fair how she and her “SNL” cast partners must be careful when making fun of pop culture.

“Being in a conversation with all popular culture, there is a danger there,” he explained. “Sometimes you do not realize how it presents itself, but you get in a position to be committed to that all the time, because you are part of a program that constantly interacts with popular and popular culture.

Sherman was not the first “SNL” player to reflect on the sketch “The White Potus”, which was inserted by the family of President Donald Trump and several members of the Cabinet in the drama in the posth Thailand Resort, where “The White Lotus” was established this season.
At the end of April, Comedian and Podcaster Bowen Yang told “extra” that he thought Wood’s response was “completely valid.”
“With parody, you forget the type of human and emotional cost that is exalted to someone,” he said.
