American Man in the race for more than 20 years after a fatal accident arrested in Canada

An American man who had been fleeing for more than two decades was arrested in Toronto earlier this year, police said.

Patrick Lutts Jr., facing charges of involuntary homicide in Orlando, Florida, in relation to a fatal accident, lived openly in Toronto for 21 years without legal status, according to judicial documents cited by the News partner News Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC News).

Toronto police told News themezone that Lutts was arrested in February under the Canadian extradition law. It is scheduled to appear in a court court at the end of this month, according to CBC News.

In November 2023, an anonymous council to Crime Stoppers in Florida led the authorities to suspect Lutts to be in Canada, according to judicial documents informed by CBC News, which was the first to inform his arrest. Lutts was put under surveillance, and the police discovered that he lived in a high -rise apartment building in Toronto.

In the early hours of Christmas Day of 1998, Lutts, who was then 25, allegedly crashed into a vehicle in Orlando, which resulted in the death of two teenagers: Nancy López, 19, and her boyfriend, Darvin Javier Dejesus-Taboada, 18, informed the researchers.

The researchers said that the couple was thrown several meters after Lutts, which had “a strong smell of alcohol that came from their breath” After a drink night, crashed their truck in their vehicle. “His blood alcohol level was supposedly more than three times the legal limit, CBC News reported.

Lutts was supposedly involved in another damaged driving accident in Connecticut in 2002, CBC News reported, citing judicial files. It was not presented for a guilt hearing in October 2003, according to public records, before disappearing until their recent arrest in Toronto, CBC News reported.
