JD Vance meets Pope Leo XIV in the Vatican, gives him a t -shirt of the Chicago Bears

Rome – Papa Leo XIV and Vice President JD Vance met in the Vatican on Monday before a series of diplomatic efforts led by the United States aimed at progressing in a high fire in the Russian war in Ukraine. In the days after its May 8 elections, Leo has promised “all efforts” to help bring Ukraine to peace. He has also emphasized his continuity with Pope Francis, who made the care of migrants and the poor a priority of his pontificate.

Before his choice, Prevost shared news articles on X that criticized Trump administration plans for mass deportations of migrants.

Vance was one of the last foreign officials to meet with Francis before the death of the Argentine Pope on April 21. The two had tangled up on migration, with Francis publicly rebuking the Deportation Plan of the Trump Administration and correcting Vance’s theological justification for it.
