5 skiers found dead in Glacier in Switzerland; Another skier killed by Avalanche

The bodies of five skiers have found themselves in a glacier about the Swiss city of Zermatt, the authorities said, and another person was killed after an avalanche in a town north of there.

The Cantonal Police of Valais said Sunday that the group of victims was located in the Adler glacier after air and land searches after two hikers informed having seen abandoned skis near the Rimpfischhorn, a 4,000 -meter peak in the Valais Alps.

The formal identification of the victims is still underway, and their nationalities have not yet been released.

The authorities have opened an investigation into the circumstances of the accident. Climate conditions and avalanche activity in the region are being examined as part of the probe.

On Saturday, in a great altitude tourist city of Kandersteg that is 1.5 hours north of Zermatt, the Local Police said that an avalanche buried three skiers in Morgenhorn, killing one of them. Two of the men had minor injuries, according to Bern’s police.

The deceased was identified as a 29 -year -old Swiss citizen from the canton of Berna, police said.
