Paris officials investigate vandalism in the Holocaust memorial, 3 synagogas

The authorities in Paris have initiated an investigation after several Jewish sites throughout the capital were disfigured with green painting.

Vandalism, discovered on Saturday morning, attacked the memorial shoah, two synagogues and a Jewish restaurant in the historic district of Marais of the city, as well as a third synagogue in the 20th district (district). According to the reports, an open can of paint was found near, while the French media said the surveillance images of the Holocaust memorial showed an individual dressed in black spray paint during the night.

The Paris prosecutor’s office confirmed that he had opened an investigation for “damage committed by religion”, citing attacks against “Tres Synagogas, a restaurant and the Shoah Memorial” during the night from Friday to Saturday.

Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau expressed his “immense disgust” regarding the acts of vandalism aimed at the Jewish community through an X position, previously Twitter.

The acts are ahead of the Jewish party of Shavuot. The Ministry of Interior of France had already requested greater security around Jewish sites this weekend due to the main global tensions.

No suspect has been arrested and no group has assumed responsibility.

France has the third largest Jewish population in the world, behind Israel and the United States, according to the Jewish Policies Research Institute.
