The modern star of the middle of the century reinvents a classic by Judy Garland for a great cause
He warmed the success of the “modern of the mid -century” of Hulu, Nathan Lee Graham will begin the month LGBTQ+ Pride next week with a brief return to the New York stage.
The actor will be a guest of honor in the 13th annual “Night of Thousands”, which will take place at Joe’s Pub in the New York Public Theater on Monday, June 2. He is receiving the second annual prize of Judy Icon Award, which celebrates contributions to queer rights and visibility and is appointed after the Hollywood Legend Judy Garland.
Similarly, television and film producer Jeremy Katz will accept the Good Judy Award in recognition of his dedication to “raise the LGBTQ+” community.
“They say that one is judged by the company they maintain,” said Graham, whose credits also include the Reese Witherspoon comedy “Sweet Home Alabama” and “The Wild Party” of Broadway, to News. “If this is true, then be associated with the incomparable Judy Garland and [2024 Judy Icon Award recipient] Justin Vivian Bond [means] I’m doing something right! “
To commemorate the occasion, Graham and the creative team “Night of a Thousand Judys” have released a video of their chilling performance at last year’s event. In it, he interprets the classic torch song “Stormy Weather”, which Garland crowned in his Carnegie Hall concert in 1961 and in his series of News varieties two years later.
Look at Nathan Lee Graham’s performance from “Wormy Weather” below.

Describing the “stormy climate” as “powerful, daring and terrifying,” Graham said the song is “to allow you to feel all the sensations. Purgeos so that you leave the other side … maybe? And do it in front of others requires a certain type of courage.”
Since its inception in 2012, “Night of A Thousand Judys” has presented a lot of Broadway, Cinema and Television stars. Collectively, they contribute a new brightness to the many Garland classics, including “the man who escaped” from “A Star is Born” from 1954 and, of course, “over the Rainbow” of “The Wizard of Oz” from 1939, in a concert of one night.
As in previous years, this year’s event is organized by writer-actor Justin Elizabeth Sayre, whose television loans include “2 Girls Broke Girls”, with profits that benefit the Ali Forney Center, a defense group based in New York headquarters for young LGBTQ+ young LGBTQ+. Those who cannot attend the program but still want to donate to the Ali Forney center can do it here.

The 2025 alignment includes the veteran “Rupaul’s Drag Race” Alexis Michelle and the actor and winning singer of the Grammy Natasha Yvette Williams, a nominated for the Tony 2023 award for the scenic adaptation of “Sub Like It Hot”.
Speaking to News, Sayre clarified that the “Night of one thousand Judys” was understood as a “inspiration show”, pointing out: “Once again we are expanding the limits of what Judy means for people and how far and wide his talents continue to arrive.”
“She is a spiritual guide to me,” Sayre said about Garland, who died in 1969 at age 47. “She demands that I be brave. He grabs my hands and tells me to come out and ‘cadles to all and stay all night'”.
Sayre, who uses them/they pronouns, continued observing: “How do we reach the hearts of those around us? Not concentrating on what divides us, but imagining a world in brilliant technicolor where we all overcome the rainbow and we find a place like home.”

This year’s “thousand Judys” will be particularly significant for Sayre, who is going to marry his partner five days after the show. They are also aware of the many reversions of the rights that the LGBTQ+ community currently faces at the federal level under President Donald Trump.

“We are all in the cutting block, whether we realize or not,” Sayre said. “But at a time like that, what are we supposed to do? Hide? Accept these Charlatans and fear workers? Deliver the rights for which we have fought so hard and hidden? Not in your life.”
They continued to observe: “I want to be bigger, more brave, gayer, more gender, more non -binary, more awakened than ever, because the alternative is a world of cruelty and stupidity, and I, for my part, refuse to be intimidated by so much stupidity.”
