A Chinese citizen accused of voteing illegally at the University of Michigan has fled from the United States, according to a criminal complaint filed by the Federal Investigation Office that was revealed on Friday.

Haoxiang Gao attended the University based in Ann Arbor in October 2024 and lived on campus, authorities said.

School security officials spoke with GAO on October 28 after hearing reports that a student had vote illegally in the 2024 general elections, according to recently revealed court documents. News Detroit previously reported In the case, but the authorities did not identify Gao at that time.

Gao admitted during the conversation with the school that was recorded to vote and issued a vote in a vote on the campus on October 27. The FBI said in the presentation that Gao’s passport was in possession of school security officials during a judicial hearing. However, according to prosecutors, Gao approached a Delta flight from Detroit International Airport to Shanghai, China, on January 19 using a Chinese passport to its name with a serial number that ends in “7137”.
