Los Rojos’s manager, Terry Francona, said the campocorto wanted to play in the game despite dealing with the emotions of his sister’s death, Genelis.

“It is proud to be available,” Francona said. “Children like that, Carlos Santana in Cleveland was very similar, and for a child he is so young, that is an admirable feature.”

Francona added that times like these provide a good reminder about what is “really important.”

“We care a lot to play a game and win, but in a hurry you remember what is really important,” said Francona. “So I think everyone kept their heads in a turn with him today, just trying to take care of him.”

The home run of the cross left the pitcher of the Jameson Taillon puppies at the top of the sixth. When he crossed the plate, he said the sky and made a heart with his hands.

He refused to talk to the media after the game, and the Reds did not provide more details about his death, citing the player’s wishes.

Digital Z101 of the Dominican Republic reported that Genelis died on Saturday after a long health battle.

De la Cruz is hitting .258 with an OPS of .786 in 60 games for the reds this season. It has 12 homers and 42 races driven in that period.
