Mel Gibson is recovering the rights of his weapon after losing them in a case of domestic violence of 2011, the New York Times reported Thursday.

Attorney General Pam Bondi approved the measure, sources in the newspaper told the newspaper. The controversy had previously bubbled by alleged pressure on a forgiveness lawyer from the Department of Justice that had refused to recommend that Gibson had his right to possess restored firearms.

Elizabeth G. Oyer said last month that her superiors told her to make the recommendation due to Gibson’s “personal relationship” with Trump, but worried about the concerns about the volatile past of the Oscar winner. That’s why he was fired, he said.

A justice department official denied his account in a report from previous times.
