MEXICO CITY (AP) – The popular Mexican regional music band Firm Grupo announced on Friday that it was canceling an performance at a music festival in California during the weekend after the United States government suspended the musicians’ visas.

It occurs after the United States Department of State has revoked visas by several Mexican musicians for playing a genre of music that, he says, glorifies the violence of the poster.

The group, which has shot international fame playing Mexican regional music, said in a statement published on their Instagram account that their visas and their team are currently under “administrative review of the United States embassy” and that would make it “impossible” for them to act at the wave festival that will be held in the city of Napa, California, on June 1. But the publication was not what meant in the long term for the musical group for the musical group.

The United States embassy in Mexico said that visa cases are confidential according to US law and could not provide more information about the case.

The suspension is only the last one of a series of movements that the administration of the president of the United States, Donald Trump, has addressed Mexican artists in the genre, who in some cases have glorified the leaders of the posters as a kind of Robin Hood figures. While the genre of “narco-corridos” has caused controversy, much of the music also speaks of the harsh realities that face the young Mexicans trapped in the violence of the poster.

Two months ago, the Mexican musical group Los Alegres del Barranco was sanctioned after he screened images of the leader of the feared Jalisco New Generation cartel in a concert in the western state of Jalisco.

“I firmly believe in freedom of expression, but that does not mean that the expression should be free of consequences,” said the United States Secretary of State Christopher Landau, at that time. “The last thing we need is a welcome carpet for people who extol criminals and terrorists.”

But Grupo Firm has taken measures in recent months to distance from the facet of the musical genre glorifying criminal groups, announcing in April shortly after the controversy that he would not sing that music in the concerts.
