After three decades in the air, David Muir enjoys a great (and devout) fan base, and has learned to admire calmly.

In an interview with People published during the weekend, the ABC news presenter was asked how he felt about being labeled as “Dad” by some of his most vocal fans.

“People will forward Tiktok’s videos, but just because they are laughing out of them and mocking me and saying: ‘When did you become a dad?’ So I don’t know if that happens when you reach 50 or what, but I will take it as a compliment, I think, “Muir joked, 51. “Anyone who works with me knows that I feel so uncomfortable, even having to put on the tuxedo. Therefore, the fact that I survived those events is still a surprise for me without looking like a total nerd.”

A native of Syracuse, New York, Muir began in the local subsidiary of the News WTVH-TV in 1994. Nine years later, he joined ABC News as presenter of the night news program “World News Now Now”, and has increased through the rows of the network since then, happening to Diane Sawyer as the presenter and managing editor of ABC World News in 2014.

Although Muir’s coverage on American politics has occasionally turned it into a target of criticism, the thirst for fans for him is certainly palpable. A Tumblr blog entitled “Gimme Gimme Muir” is dedicated to snapshots and Muir memes at home and on the road, while a Tiktok video published by Page six of New York Post shows a clip of the journalist who enters the writing room with the melody of the “father figure” of George Michael.

“Siri, plays ‘Daddy’s Home’,” says the video subtitle.

Although Muir has kept Mom in details of her private life for most of her career, she tells People that her “most comfortable element is outside, covered with mud,” and points out that he recently enjoyed a rainy weekend of the day of the fallen in the north of the state of New York.

As for the future of his career, he said: “I think it is really important to continue trying to be better. At the moment you stop learning, at the time you are no longer curious, at the time you don’t think you can be better than you make a week a week ago, it is probably a time to verify yourself.”

“I still feel that I am that child running to that local writing room so many years ago,” he added. “I love this work. I love people that I interview and know, and I think that journalism is more important than ever.”
