George Wendt
The “Cheers” star George Wendt died of cardiac arrest in the midst of a variety of health problems, according to his death certificate obtained by various media on Thursday.
Wendt’s underlying causes were listed as congestive heart failure, coronary artery disease and hypertension. He also suffered renal failure and high cholesterol, points of sale recorded by the document issued by the Department of Public Health of Los Angeles County.
Wendt’s body was incinerated on May 28, eight days after, according to the reports, he died while sleeping at 76, according to the certificate.
Wendt was famous for playing the Barcly Obsessive standard with beer in the classic “Cheers” situation comedy, which extended from 1982 to 1993.

In a 2024 podcast with former cast companions Ted Danson and Woody Harrelson, Wendt remembered his agent sending him to audition for “Cheers.” He discovered that he would have to pronounce a single word for the part, properly, it was “beer.” But when that idea was discarded, he read for the role that finally became a rule.
