The Greek authorities arrested an American man on Friday on the Greek island of Skiathos suspected of killing a baby found during the weekend in a park in Rome and having a role in the death of a woman who believes is that she is the baby’s mother, whose body was found near.

The American, who was not identified, was arrested by a European arrest warrant issued in Italy, citing “strong evidence” of his suspicion of participation in the death of the girl, the chief prosecutor of Rome, Francesco Voi, said at a press conference in Rome.

Italian investigators said that the cause of the woman’s death was not known, “but there is a reasonable suspicion that it is a double murder,” said attached prosecutor Giuseppe Cascini.

The bodies of the girl and the mother, it is also believed that they are Americans, were found in the Pamchili Park in Villa de Roma on Saturday. The mother’s body was under a black bag, since she was killed several days before the baby, who was found several hundred meters away.

Both were naked and without any identification, said Lo Voi.

The suspect, which witnesses had seen in the presence of a woman and a baby, fled from Italy by Skiathos on Wednesday, said Lo Voi.

It will be formally arrested when the order is sent to Greek officials, and will appear for an extradition hearing next week, Greek police told News.

“It is not exactly understandable that someone who was with a woman and a girl, once the woman and the girl died, whom she carried in her arms, left the country without asking for help, without seeking help,” said Lo Voi. “In itself, that looks good.”

The relationship of the victims with the suspect was not clear immediately, but the video surveillance reports and witnesses gathered them on several occasions; The witnesses heard them speak in English. They had been tracked for a shelter for those needed near the Vatican, where they seemed to be a nuclear family, said Corriere Della Sera.

At one point, the couple had fought on the street, which led the police to take their identity, which helped take it, the investigators said.

The authorities were able to locate the suspect thanks to the digital footprints in the bag that cover the woman and a piece of a tent like those provided to people without refuge, said the newspaper. It was located in Greece with cell phone data.

According to the newspaper, the woman, who was about 30 years old, had a tattoo of a skeleton in a surf table.

Corriere Della Sera also reported that a girl’s pink dress was found in a garbage boat near where the bodies were found.

The newspaper said that Forensic teams collected a total of 40 articles, including a bra and a sleeping bag. The images of the scene showed that the officers toured the weeds and a wooded area for evidence.
