The side effects of LPG-1 may vary, but a less known result of popular weight loss is the loss or thinning of hair.
Some stylists have confirmed an increase in customers who complain about losing their hair during weight loss trips.
This includes Ashley Dimatteo, owner of Ashley Lauren Beauty Lounge in Westchester, New York, and Briana Delvecchio, a color specialist and hairdressing at Dimatteo’s Salon. The two spoke with News Digital in an interview in the camera (See the video at the top of the article).

“There has definitely there has been an increase in customers who enter with hair loss,” Dimatteo said, noting that he varies from gradual to fast and to lose weight to lose his hair completely.
Delvecchio agreed that he has had “some” clients who have thinner and dry hair, which suspects that it could be due to drugs to lose weight.

“It is a successful brand in weight loss management,” said an expert. “If the patient loses her hair, that means she has lost weight quickly.” (Istock)
The stylist, who takes a GLP-1 drug, said there may be some reasons for hair changes, including new medications, vitamin deficiencies and weight loss, which can put stress on the body.
Becky Watt, an Ohio stylist with more than 20 years of experience, said it has also noticed that customers lose their hair while taking drugs to lose weight.
“I have seen weight loss and detachment, and a lot of hair comes out very easily when washing.”
“I have seen weight loss and detachment, and a lot of hair that comes out very easily when they wash me,” he told News Digital. “I have not noticed any bald point.”
However, he has had some clients who are taking the medications without hair loss, Watt added.
Medical factors
In a separate interview, Dr. Philip Rabito, an endocrinologist in New York City, explained that this reaction, called Effluvio Telogen, is a response to stress to weight loss that affects the hair follicle.

The answer is only temporary, he said: the hair will fall and then grow once the weight loss is stabilized after a few months.
“It is an answer to severe physical stress, and weight loss is considered hungry,” Rabito said. “It is the speed of weight loss that correlates with the amount of hair loss.”

Before weight loss drugs, traditional bariatric surgery would lead to the loss of 70% of excess body weight in approximately six months, Rabit shared, which was often followed by hair loss in six to nine months.
“His body does not understand that this is a healthy weight loss: his body believes he is hungry,” he reiterated. “It happens to almost everyone, some people more than others.”
This daily beauty routine could be ruining your hair, experts warn.
Rabito said that those who lose weight have a higher risk of hair loss, as well as those who have an underlying thyroid problem or micronutrient deficiency, typically in iron, B12 or vitamin D.
These vitamin deficiencies can worsen as weight loss occurs, so it is important to work with a medical professional to balance these levels, according to the doctor.

“It seems that my clients who say they have no appetite are the ones who lose the largest amount of hair,” a stylist observed. (Istock)
“From what I have learned when talking with these specific clients, it seems that the clients who are still eating do not have hair loss,” Watt observed.
“It seems that my clients who say they have no appetite are the ones who lose the largest amount of hair,” he continued. “I think it is possibly due to the lack of nutrients and proteins, although I am not a doctor.”
Tips for handling hair loss
Dimatteo and Delvecchio agreed that “always” advised their clients to see their doctor for a vitamin level control.
“And we will also decrease your hair routine,” Dimatteo said. “Basically, less is more during hair loss.”

“Consult your weight loss or endocrinologist before coming to us to rule out iron, vitamin D or anything you lack; we must discard that before you can help you,” Delvecchio said.
“Then we will tell you that we need to work on your scalp health; we will give you shampoo and conditioner that can be a bit softer for your hair.”
“It is a response to severe physical stress, and weight loss is considered hungry.”
“The scalp stimulation is huge,” Dimatteo added. “The rinse with cold water also helps. Try not to make more hard treatments in the sense of lighten or color, extend it as much as possible.”
Rabito said that losing the hair is “part of the game”: he said he always warns his patients before starting his weight loss trip that will probably occur and that it is a “successful brand.”

“They will lose their hair,” he said. “It will get worse before improving.”
“But as long as they control the vitamins, they repeat them properly: when the patient’s plateaus and the weight are stable for a month or two, the body no longer feels hungry, and the body is less stressed, then the hair grows again better than ever.”
Watt said that often recommends a vitamin for hair to its customers fighting with weight loss. “The diet also has a lot to do with that,” he said.
It also recommends using a shampoo and a conditioner that are formulated to resist thinning and hair loss, along with a link -construction hair product.

Dimatteo and Delvecchio assured those who are experiencing hair loss that the return takes time, and that there is no need for excessive treatments for hair growth.
Delvecchio added: “Hair loss is temporary. It is a positive stress and is worth it.”
