Its genetic composition could be the reason why it is not losing weight.
New research from the Harvard Thard Thard School of Public Health and the University of Ben Gurion in Israel discovered that one third of the people who followed a healthy diet did not lose weight, although they experienced health benefits.
Participants exhibited “significant improvements” in cardio-methabolic markers, including improved cholesterol, the lowest levels of the hormone hungry leptin and less visceral fat, which is “in the background” of the abdominal cavity, according to a press release.

The study, published in the European Journal of Preventive Cardiology, analyzed changes in weight and health for 761 people in Israel who had abdominal obesity.
During three essays, participants were assigned to specific healthy diets, such as low-fat, carbohydrates, Mediterranean and Green-Mediterranean, for 18 to 24 months.

In all clinical trials, 36% of participants achieved “clinically significant” weight loss, while 36% achieved moderate weight loss. Another 28% did not lose weight or even increased weight.
Those who were resistant to weight loss, mostly older individuals and women, showed the same health improvements as the participants who lost weight.

“We have been conditioned to equate the loss of weight with health, and people resistant to weight loss are often labeled as failures,” wrote the main study author Anat Yaskolka Meir, a member of postdoctoral research in the Department of Epidemiology of the Harvard Chan School, in a statement.
“Our findings rethink the way we define clinical success,” he added. “People who do not lose weight can improve their metabolism and reduce their long -term risk risk. That is a message of hope, not for failure.”

The study, funded by the German Research Foundation, had some limitations.
The majority of the participants were men, the researchers said, and added that similar studies should focus on women in the future.

Dr. Philip Rabito, an endocrinologist and weight loss specialist in New York City, told News Digital in an interview that the study findings support what he has experienced in his own practice.
“It is likely that there are genetic factors that affect the ability of an individual to lose weight,” said the doctor, who did not participate in the study. “In a nutshell, despite similar efforts, caloric restriction and lifestyle interventions, some patients lose more weight than others.”

Some people will not respond “as robust” to interventions as others, although this can be overcome with the correct orientation, according to Rabito.
“With the advice, dedication and adherence appropriate to a lifestyle program, all patients should be able to appreciate weight loss,” he said.
