President Donald Trump has not formally recognized Juneteenth, but he spent time on Thursday complaining on social networks that Americans have “too many non -labor vacations.”

“It is costing our country $ billion of dollars to maintain all these closed businesses,” the president wrote on his Truth social platform on Thursday night. “The workers do not want it! We will end up having a vacation for every time [sic] Work day of the year. You must change if we are going to make the United States again is great!

On early Thursday, the White House Secretary, Karoline Leavitt, made it clear that Trump has no plans to celebrate federal holidays.

“I am not tracking your signature in a proclamation today,” Leavitt said during a press conference. “I know that this is a federal holiday. I want to thank everyone for presenting themselves to work. We are certainly here. We are working 24 hours, 7 days a week at this time.”

Juneteenth was officially appointed a federal holiday in 2021 after a bill to encode the holiday approved both Congress cameras with an overwhelming bipartisan support.

In 2020, Trump was attributed to Juneteenth to obtain national recognition and even campaigned to be a federal holiday.

“I did something good: I did that Juneteenth was very famous,” he said after facing strong criticism for programming a campaign manifestation on June 19, 2020. “It is actually an important event, an important moment. But nobody had heard of him.”

The black Americans have long celebrated Juneteenth for a long time, who commemorates the day in 1865 when a union general rode Galveston, Texas, and told the enslaved people that the war had ended and that they were free, months after the conflict was over and more than two years after Abraham Lincoln signed the proclamation of emancipation.

Trump’s silence about Juneteenth marks a rest of the tradition established during his first administration. He commemorated the holidays with a presidential message every year of that term.

“As a nation, we promise never to forget the millions of African Americans who suffered the evils of slavery,” he wrote in 2018.

But in his second term as president, Trump has actively worked to dismantle the efforts of diversity, equity and inclusion in the federal government, while disinfecting the history of systemic racism against blacks.

As a result of Trump’s war against Dei’s initiatives, many June celebrations throughout the country have been completely reduced or canceled as financing has decreased. About 15% of the companies surveyed in a recent study said they would no longer celebrate events such as Juneteenth.

While Trump’s message on Thursday seemed to indicate that he had set the federal holiday state of Juneteenth, he will first need the support of Congress to do so.
