Tens of thousands of votes cast in the North Carolina Supreme Court race last year could be expelled after a recent ruling says that the tickets could have been illegally.

The republican candidate for the highest court of the state, Jefferson Griffin, challenged the more than 65,000 votes that could decide last year’s elections. On Friday, the Court of Republican Majority Appeals, of which Griffin is a member but that was challenged from the decision, ruled 2-1 in favor of Griffin.

Although the winner of the race has not become official, the democratic judge of the Allison Riggs Supreme Court received more than 734 votes more than Griffin in a count. The destroying of thousands of tickets could now balance the elections in favor of Griffin.

In his ruling, the Court of Appeals said that the 65,000 voters must provide evidence of their identity or that their vote disagree. Voters will have only 15 days to demonstrate their eligibility if the failure is found.

The North Carolina State Elections Board previously rejected Griffin’s initial challenge. The president of the Board, Alan Hirsch, described Griffin’s efforts “Anathema for the democratic system,” Wral said.

The failure will probably be appealed. The president of the North Carolina Democratic Party, Anderson Clayton, said Friday that the Democrats “fight against this decision.”

“But they are not mistaken, the Bank of the Court of State Appeals has accumulated to the political pressure and corruption of its own party,” Clayton published on social networks. “The NCGOP and the RNC are trying to steal a choice and try the waters for the future refusal of the elections.”
