In a futuristic confrontation that captured global attention, four autonomous humanoid robots teams competed in the first football tournament with China.
The event took place in the Yizhuang Development Zone in Beijing as part of the robbery football tournament League Robot, marking a significant milestone for the artificial intelligence competition of the real world in China.

How autonomous robot football works without humans
Unlike remote controlled robot matches, this tournament presented zero human intervention. Each team had three active humanoid robots plus a substitute, playing two halves of ten minutes with a five -minute break.
The robots ran, walked, kicked and even made decisions in real time using AI and sensors. The cameras and optical sensors allowed them to detect the ball from 65 feet away with more than 90% precision. They also recognized their teammates, field brands, goals and opponents. Despite a slightly uncomfortable march, the robots operated completely on their own, acting and reacting without any external command.

“This is the first totally autonomous Robot football match in China. It represents a combination of technological innovation and industrial application,” said Dou Jing, executive director of the Organizing Committee.
Beyond entertainment, the event offered a serious view on how AI and robotics could integrate into public life. He showed how far the autonomy of the real world has come and how these systems can work in unpredictable environments. Dou added that the game was a step to take intelligent machines to everyday scenarios.

The event also served as a preview for the World Robot Humanoid 2025 Games, which will be presented in Beijing from August 15 to 17. The games will include eleven modeled events after traditional sports, including athletics, gymnastics, soccer and synchronized dance. It will be the second great humanoid sporting event in the city after a half marathon.
The organizers pointed out that, although robots still face challenges, such as dynamic obstacle avoidance, progress is happening quickly. For this event, collisions were allowed as long as they were not malicious. A coorganizer compared the level of play with that of children aged 5 or 6, but expressed their optimism that skill levels would improve with better hardware and AI training.

Autonomous humanoid robots in the action of the real world
Previously, China also organized a humanoid race versus of human long distance, where the upper robot completed a course of 13 miles in two hours and 40 minutes. The fastest human ended in just over an hour, but the comparison showed how far the robots have arrived.
While Beijing prepares to organize the Global Games of 2025, Robot Soccer begins to feel less like a trick and more like a look at how smart machines could soon play an important role in our daily lives.
