The reign of Christian Horner as director of the Red Bull team reached an impressive end on Wednesday when the organization moved to fire him in the middle of the 2025 season of Formula 1.

The decision occurred when Max Verstappen settled with the fifth place in the rainy Grand Prix of Silverstone, while Yuki Tsunoda ended in 15º.

Red Bull is also fourth in the classification of the builders, behind the dominant McLaren, Ferrari and Mercedes. Red Bull won the Construction Championship in 2022 and 2023 before being eliminated from the throne in 2024 by McLaren. Red Bull had six constructor titles under Horner since 2010 and the eight driver titles.

“We would like to thank Christian Horner for his exceptional work in the last 20 years,” said Oliver Mintzlaff, executive director of Red Bull for corporate projects and investments, in a statement.

“With its tireless commitment, experience, experience and innovative thought, it has been fundamental to establish Red Bull Racing as one of the most successful and attractive teams of Formula 1. thanks for everything, Christian, and will always continue to be an important part of the history of our team.”

Red Bull also said that Horner “would remain an important part of the history of our team”, but did not give an exact reason for dismissal.

Red Bull began the season in flow after dropping Sergio Pérez to mention Liam Lawson. However, Lawson had a horrible beginning and was quickly replaced with Tsunoda. However, the Japanese pilot has failed to score a point in the last five races.

There are also questions about whether Verstappen, the winner of the last four world championships, will remain in Red Bull by 2026.

The announcement also occurred more than a year after Horner was accused of misconduct towards a team employee. An investigation carried out on behalf of Red Bull dismissed the accusation, as well as an additional investigation carried out after the employee appealed against the ruling, the team said at that time. Horner remained in charge of the team throughout the process.

Red Bull’s brother team, Racing Bulls, also received a shake. With Laurent Mekies assuming the position of executive director of the Red Bull team, his role was occupied by Alan remains.
