Amanda Anisimova overthrew the number 1 tennis player in the world, Aryna Sabalenka, on Thursday in Wimbledon’s semifinals, surprising the sports world as Americans move to the finals.

“Amanda amazing!” The sports broadcasters called, while the 12th classified player beat Sabalenka 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 to catch his first place on the central court.

“Being in the Wimbledon final is so incredibly special,” said New Jersey Native of 23 years in an interview after the game. She thanked her fans, her sister and her nephew for her support, as well as her “incredible team” for helping her to secure her place in the final.

Only two years before, Anisimova took a professional rest several months after losing to the Dutch qualifier Arantxa Rus in the Madrid Open in April 2023, exhausted, said, for the relentless demands of the elite competition.

She said in an Instagram publication in May 2023: “I’ve really been fighting with my mental health and my exhaustion since the summer of 2022. It has become unbearable to be in tennis tournaments.” He added that his priority is his “mental well -being and taking a break for some time. I have worked as hard as I could to overcome it.”

During his time out of sport, Anisimova turned to art and music. She told Olympics.com in an interview that resorted to painting, and that sold some of her creations, inspired by Van Gogh, to raise funds for mental health and beneficial organizations of social causes. He also said he loves rapper Lil Wayne. “I mainly listen to it before my games,” said Anisimova.

For the most part, Anisimova said he enjoyed doing the “simple things”, during his break, such as reading, listening to music and painting to reduce their stress levels and relax.

Anisimova returned to the tennis circuit about 12 months ago, and when asked about his trip after beating Sabalenka, he said: “To be honest if you would tell me that I would be in the Wimbledon final, I wouldn’t believe you.”

She said Sabalenka was a difficult competitor but “such inspiration for me and for many other players.”

“It’s not easy,” said Anisimova. “And many people dream of competing on this incredible court … being in the final is simply indescribable.”

Born of Russian parents in New Jersey, Anisimova moved to Miami when he was three years old. He began playing tennis after going with the practices of his older sister Maria Anisimova-Egee every day and finally developed a passion for sport.

Anisimova will meet with the Polish tennis player IGA świątek on Saturday on the Wimbledon court on the Grassy Center court for the finals.
