Armed men killed a Honduran mayor of re -election in the Central American Nation of Violence, although it was not believed that the murder was politically motivated, police said Thursday.
Francisco Martínez, mayor of the Northwest municipality of San Isidro, was taken by men armed with a motel in the city of Siguatepeque on Wednesday night and shot outside, according to a police statement, and added that Martínez “supposedly drank alcohol” when he was abducted.
His body full of bullets was found near a football field, according to the police.
The murder did not seem to be related to Martínez’s political activities, he said, added that the evidence suggested that the reason was probably “personal revenge.”

The 45 -year -old mayor was looking for re -election for the National Right opposition party in the presidential, legislative and local elections of November 30.
Martínez was arrested in 2015 for allegedly trying to kill a daughter’s boyfriend with a machete, police said.
Local media reported that it was acquitted in 2016.
Sources close to the investigation said Martínez frequented several motels in the area and, at the time of crime, was under surveillance due to his background, police said in his statement. Police said they confiscated a woman’s cell phone who often joined Martínez in these motels.
