What are interchangeable EV batteries?

Interchangeable EV batteries are modular batteries that can be exchanged rapidly instead of recharging. Catl, a world leader in battery technology, created a system called Choco-Seb that allows drivers to replace a battery drained in approximately 100 seconds. This makes the battery change a realistic alternative to the traditional load of EV.

How the Catl Choco-SEB battery system works

The Catl Choco-SEB battery system focuses on speed and flexibility. It is designed to withstand a wide range of electric vehicles, from compact city cars to larger silk. The system allows drivers to exchange batteries quickly and choose the configuration that best matches their needs. With this technology, a single battery exchange can deliver up to 373 miles, depending on the vehicle.

What is artificial intelligence (AI)?

Choco-Seb batteries are available in two sizes, which makes them adaptable for different car models. Drivers can install one, two or even three bathes, depending on how much driving range they want. For compact cars, the system can provide up to 311 miles, while medium vehicles can achieve up to 373 miles per exchange. This flexibility makes the Choco-SEB system a practical solution for a wide variety of drivers and travel needs.

Catl interchangeable EV batteries offer high efficiency and safe chemistry

The battery uses a mixture of lithium iron phosphate and manganese nickel cobalt. This mixture offers a balance of performance and safety, with an energy density of more than 160 Wh/kg and 325 Wh/l. The first car to launch with an interchangeable EV battery of Choco-Seb is the Changan Oshan 520. It begins in around 166,800 yuan, or approximately $ 23,100. The vehicle offers a range of 320 miles and is already winning traction. Changan has delivered more than 1,000 units and has received more than 15,000 orders.

The battery exchange stations are expanding in China

Catl is actively building a network of battery exchange stations in China. From now on, 34 stations operate in Chongqing. More than 50 are expected for the end of the year.

At the end of 2025, Catl plans to have 1,000 stations in 31 cities. Each station is compact, which requires the space of only three parking points, and can contain up to 48 interchangeable EV batteries.

Catl is working with the main car manufacturers, including GAC, Chery, Nio, FAW and BAIC. The company has almost 29% of the World Batteries Market. With the addition of interchangeable EV batteries, it is strengthening its position as an industry leader.

Why interchangeable EV batteries could change the industry

Interchangeable EV batteries address one of the biggest challenges that face electric vehicles: long load times. Instead of waiting 30 minutes or more, drivers can exchange batteries in minutes and return to the road with the ease of a car with gasoline.

The concept is gaining traction in Asian markets and is promising for global expansion. However, in the United States, challenges such as vehicle compatibility, car manufacturers, infrastructure needs and consumer acceptance remain significant.
