The National Security Service of Ukraine said Wednesday that he had reached two Russian state oil deposits in the Western Russian region of Smolensk. The Reuters news agency cited a Ukrainian intelligence official saying that the drone strike had destroyed more than 26,000 cubic meters, a little less than 1 million cubic feet, fuel in the deposits owned by Rosneft Energy Corporation in Russia.

The un verified videos published on social networks showed large fires and columns of coarse black smoke that rise from what seemed to be two oil storage tanks in one of the facilities, which are located west of Moscow near the borders of the country with Belarus and Ukraine.

The governor of the Smolensk region of Russia, Vasily Anthkin, announced for the first time the strike on Wednesday morning on social networks, saying that its “region was again attacked by attacks with unmanned Ukrainian airplanes.”

Anothkin said no one was injured in the attack, but “the fire exploded in civil infrastructure.”

He offered an update later on Wednesday to say that the “fire has been located”, indicating that there was no longer a threat that the fire extended beyond the facilities.

Officials in the regions of Voronezh and Lipetsk of Russia, south of Smolensk, also reported drones attacks against industrial areas.

The governor of Lipetsk, Igor Artamenov, said in a social media post on Wednesday that residential buildings were not affected when the “Ukrainian regime tried to attack infrastructure in the industrial zone” of its region. He said there were no casualties.

Since President Vladimir Putin ordered the large -scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, Russia’s forces have systematically attacked the energy infrastructure, transport and production of Ukrainian foods.

In recent months, Ukraine has claimed a series of drone attacks within Russia, mostly pointing to the country’s oil infrastructure.

The Ukrainian intelligence source that spoke with Reuters on Wednesday was summoned by saying that the Ukraine Army, “continues to effectively destroy the military infrastructure and logistics that provide fuel to the Russian army in Ukraine … These facilities are and will continue to be our absolutely legitimate objectives.”

Last week, the Russian Ministry of Defense claimed to have demolished 50 Ukrainian drones in eight regions, even in Moscow.

American officials have previously criticized Ukraine attacks against Russia’s oil facilities, warning that global energy markets could interrupt and urge the country to concentrate instead of attacking Russian military infrastructure.

In an interview with the Washington Post last month, the Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, emphasized that Ukraine has the right to use his weapons in self -defense in the way he considers convenient.
