Hong Kong’s privacy surveillance said Tuesday that he has launched a criminal investigation into a AI-Generated porn scandal at the oldest university in the city, after a student was accused of creating hurt images of his classmates and teachers.
Three people alleged during the weekend that a law student at the University of Hong Kong (HKU) made deep pornographic of at least 20 women who use artificial intelligence, in what is the first case of high profile of this type in the Chinese financial center.
The University caused outrage due to an indulgent punishment perceived after he said on Saturday that he had only sent a warning letter to the student and demanded that he apologize.
But Hong Kong’s office of the Personal Data Commissioner said Tuesday to disseminate the personal data of another person without consent, and with the intention of causing harm, it could be a crime.
The Guardian dog “has begun a criminal investigation into the incident and has no more comments at this stage,” he said, without mentioning the student.
The accusers said in a statement on Saturday that Hong Kong’s law only penalizes the distribution of “intimate images”, including those created with AI, but not the generation of them.
Until now, there is no accusation that the student spreads Deepfake’s images, so “victims cannot seek punishment … through the Hong Kong criminal justice system,” they wrote.
The accusers said a friend discovered the images on the student’s laptop.
Experts warn that the alleged use of the scandal can be the tip of a “very large iceberg” that surrounds non -consensual images.
“The HKU case clearly shows that anyone could be a perpetrator, no space is 100 percent safe,” Annie Chan, former associate professor at the Lingnan University of Hong Kong, told News.
The defenders of women’s rights said that Hong Kong was “lagged” in terms of legal protections.

“Some people seeking our help feel harmted, because they never took those photos,” said Doris Chong, executive director of the Association on Sexual Violence against Women, referring to cases at the group’s crisis center. “The generations of AI are so realistic that their circulation would be very disturbing.”
When asked about the case at a press conference on Tuesday, Hong Kong leader John Lee said most of the city’s laws “are applicable to internet activities.”
HKU said on Saturday that he will review the case and take more measures if applicable.
The pornography generated by Ia has also reached the headlines in the US. A study found that 6% of American adolescents have been the objectives of deepfake naked images that resemble them.
Last month, goal eliminated a series of ads that promote “nudify” applications – ai Tools used to create deep sexually explicit Use of images of real people: after a News themezone investigation found hundreds of such ads on their platforms.
In May, one of the largest websites dedicated to Deepfake’s pornography announced that close After a critical service provider withdrew his support, effectively stopping the site operations.
