The former HGTV Chip Gaines star issued a pointed response to conservative critics angry at the inclusion of a same -sex couple in the new series “Back to the Frontier”, which he produces with his wife, Joanna Gaines.

Chip and Joanna Gaines do not appear in “Back to the Frontier”, but are involved in the program as executive producers. On Tuesday, Riggs publicly thanked Chip and Joanna Gaines for “leading with love, listening and learning” in their Instagram stories. In an interview with the LGBTQ+ Queerty news media last week, Riggs said he initially hesitated to appear in “Back to the Frontier”, but finally put himself “on board with all the concept of continuing to normalize the same -sex families.”
