The recreational use of marijuana has become more common in recent years.
But some investigations have found that consuming cannabis could have negative effects on the body, especially in the brain.
A recent French study suggested that cannabis use increases the risk of heart attack and stroke rather than cocaine, while a Canadian study found that the risk of dementia is connected to hospital visits related to cannabis in older individuals.

In an interview with News Digital, Dr. Daniel Amen, a psychiatrist, specialist in brain images and founder of Amen Clinics in California, confirmed that the “clear” people who use marijuana have a lower blood flow in their brain, according to decades of brain images made in their clinics.

These findings, together with associations between marijuana and heart disease, have been supported by other recent investigations.
“They have lied to us that marijuana is harmless, that marijuana is a good medicine,” said Amen. “And I think for some people, it can be useful. But teenagers who use it, or 20 -year -old people have a greater incidence of anxiety, depression, suicide and psychosis.”

In a new study that compared people who smoked cigarettes with those who smoked marijuana, marijuana users suffered more pulmonary damage, he mentioned.
“This is not good for us,” said Amen.

The development of the research shows that smoking marijuana “is simply not great for us,” according to a brain doctor. (Istock)
Amen said that one of the “horrible trends” he has seen are the parents who smoke marijuana with their teenagers and young adults.
“It simply makes me think that we are on the wrong way,” he said.

While some people can argue that alcohol is worse for the body than marijuana, Amen emphasized that “neither is good for you.”
“Why would you want to consume something that makes your brain older than you?” asked.

As the brain of a young adult is not fully developed, participating in cannabis consumption can go back to young people mentally, causing problems such as anxiety and depression, Amen warned.
“When you start using marijuana, alcohol or other drugs, your development is arrested,” he said.

“Many people really do not appreciate how important their brain is when they are 17, 18, 21 or 23 years old, because it really does not end up developing until they are 25 or 26 years old,” said Amen. “And if you hurt it early, you may never catch up.”
