A great advance in artificial intelligence and high performance computer science is on its way, and comes from Georgia Tech.

Backed by an investment of $ 20 million from the National Science Foundation (NSF), the university is building a supercomputer called Nexus. It is expected to connect online in the spring of 2026.

Nexus supercomputer offers speed and power of AI

This system is fast. We are talking very fast. Nexus will reach more than 400 performance petaflops, which means that you can execute 400 quadrillones of operations every second. To put that in perspective, it is like giving each person on earth the ability to solve 50 million mathematical problems at the same time. But speed is not the only headline here. The designers built nexus specifically for AI workloads and research that need serious calculation muscle. With so much speed behind them, scientists can address complex problems in health, energy, robotics, climate and more, faster than ever.

What is artificial intelligence (AI)?

The architecture of AI leads to Nexus from scratch

Nexus is not just another general purpose machine with a layer of added later. Georgia Tech built it from scratch with artificial intelligence, automatic learning and large -scale data science in mind, together with traditional high performance computing needs.

The system will have 330 Terabytes of Memory and 10 Flash Storage Petabytes, on the digital equivalent of 10 billion paper resames. This infrastructure level is essential to train large AI models, execute complex simulations and manage mass data sets that do not fit the standard systems.

Speed is a priority at all times. Data infrastructure is completely optimized to move information between components without problems, without bottlenecks. That means that researchers can exceed the limits of their workflows without delays and transfers of slow files or memory deficit retaining them.

The Nexus supercomputer combines speed with usability

While most supercomputers focus only on raw performance, Nexus adopts a more balanced approach. Georgia Tech is designing it for power and ease of use. With easy -to -use interfaces, scientists will not need to be experts in low -level systems to execute complex projects successfully.

From just outside the box, Nexus will admit AI workflows, data science pipes, simulations and long -term scientific services. This flexibility allows faster iteration, a smoother collaboration and minimized technical barriers, which makes a real difference in fields such as biology, chemistry, environmental sciences and engineering.

To support both the innovation of the campus and the national impact, Georgia Tech is reserving 10% of the system for use on the campus, while the NSF will administer a broader national access.
